The 30-Second Creator Check Before You Hit Post

Before you post, don't watch your content like its creator.

Watch it like someone who has zero context.

You know the joke.
You know the product.
You know what happens next.

Your viewer doesn't.

Take 30 seconds and check these four things.

1. Can I Understand This Without Knowing the Backstory?

Remove yourself from the equation.

If someone discovers this post without seeing your previous content, will they understand what's happening?

This matters especially for:

  • Storytime content
  • Inside jokes
  • Product integrations
  • Series content
  • Trend-based posts

Context you know isn't automatically context your audience has.

2. Does the Important Part Arrive Too Late?

Watch the video once and notice where the actual value appears.

If your strongest point comes after a long setup, ask:

Can I move it earlier?

You don't always need a faster edit.

Sometimes you just need to reorder the information.

3. Did I Accidentally Make the Brand the Main Character?

For sponsored content, check this carefully.

The product should be visible and the required message should be clear but the video still needs to feel like your content.

If the first few seconds feel like an advertisement before you've given the viewer a reason to care, that's worth reconsidering.

4. What Would I Remove?

Don't ask what you can add.

Ask what you can remove.

  • One repeated sentence.

  • One unnecessary transition.

  • One second of silence.

  • One line that explains something the visual already shows.

Editing isn't always about adding polish. Sometimes it's removing friction.

Creator Shortcut

Before posting, watch your content once with the sound off and once without the caption.

If the story becomes confusing either time, fix the content, not the caption.

Then publish.

Afterward, use your analytics to see whether your audience actually responded the way you expected.

Create with your perspective. Review it with your audience's.

And with Hey! Creators Social Analytics, you can compare your content performance over time and use those patterns to make the next post smarter.
